Each year BBFC examiners travel the country to give masterclasses on regulation as part of Film Education’s National Schools Film Week.
Events are free and you can book places by going to the NSFW website and searching by event type (Primary or Secondary) and location.
A list of the events with locations will go live on the BBFC education events Calendar too once they are confirmed.
Case Studies have been written on all the films, outlining the issues contained and their classification. Powerpoint presentations will also be available to teachers attending the events.
Events involve a brief introduction to the work of the BBFC, the categories available, how we classify films and UK law. Students then watch the film and get the chance to discuss the issues raised with the examiner afterwards and comment on the film’s classification. There is usually plenty of opportunity for Q&A sessions with the examiner during the presentation and informally afterwards.
For those who have attended previous NSFW events Case Studies are also available on all the films discussed in the past four years. These include Juno (‘12A’), Kidulthood (‘15’) , Bullet Boy (‘15’) and Cloverfield (‘15’).
